Here we have the Toybiz Captain America from Series VIII (Series 8). The figures actually come with a circular base and a stand to attach the figure to the base, but I don’t have it. This pair of variant came out before the Face-off 2-pack Captain America. It kinda has the classic Captain America costume with scales on the chest armour, except that the gloves and boots are brown instead of red.
The Ultimate Comics version of Captain America does not have protruding mini wings on the head. That’s about the only main difference. I actually recall the Ultimate Cap having red gloves and boots, just like the mainstream (Earth-616) Cap, but having the brown gloves and boots still looks fine for this figure. The pouches are just like the in the comics for Ultimate Captain America.
Both have that hole at the back to insert the stand. The shield has a clip which is used to attach it to the wrist, and elastic bands to attach it to the shoulder and carry it behind like a backpack.
This is the OG steroid using body mold. Lol. The trapezius (shoulder muscle) is overly huge and it makes the figure hunched a bit, with the neck inclined 45 degrees forward instead of being upright. Face-off Captain America has the same body mold.
I am personally irked by this oversized upper-back muscle. He really looks like he only concentrates on those muscle group when he goes to the gym. Lol.
The head sculpt is the only difference for these variants. The one with wings on the head follows the mainstream Captain America. The Ultimate Cap has no wings protruding out of the headgear, and the letter A is bigger.
Here’s a side view of the torso and head. I like the sculpted scale armour and the star logo on the deltoids. You can also see how hunched forward he is.
The main difference is the head sculpt.
The Ultimate Captain America variant has no wings on the headgear. Mainstream (Earth-616) Captain America has the wings protruding at the top of the headgear.
Above is a comparison shot with the Face-off Captain America variants. For the mainstream Captain America, the face-off Cap is definitely better looking than the Series VIII mainstream Cap.
The Ultimate Captain America also has a running change variant whereby the pants has a grey colour part to it. I don’t have that variant though, but I have seen it personally.
For a classic costumed Captain America, above is a comparison that I have done. Do check it out here. The Toybiz Series VII Cap didn’t make the cut though. Heh.
