The Figures

Here we have the Toybiz and Hasbro Sandman. Toybiz Sandman is from Spider-man Classics Series 12 back in 2004, and Hasbro Sandman is a BAF (build-a-figure), collecting his parts from 7 figures back in late 2016/early 2017.

Toybiz Sandman has a normal pair of hands, and 4 weaponized hands which all can be used on both left or right hands.

Hasbro Sandman does not have human hands, and instead has 4 weaponized hands, which can also alternate on both left or right hands. It also comes with an alternate head.

The figures are visibly different in size, but both sizes are alright with me because Sandman can change his size. Both of them are in his classic green stripe shirt and brown pants.

Differences

The Toybiz Sandman packs a punch! It’s great that he comes with human hands. His weaponized hands are also great; I like the axe arm. One of them (the one with the jagged edges in the first picture right at the top) has clothes peg function; it can be opened and then closed to grip on to something,

Hasbro Sandman is bigger and bulkier. The downside of this Sandman is that he has no human hands. The weaponized hands are also great and looks more dangerous than Toybiz Sandman’s, simply because they are bigger. Heh. His alternate crazed partly-sand face is also useful when posing him in attack!

Both heads look great, but the Toybiz Sandman has more wrinkled details on his face. I thought the hair on the Toybiz Sandman is also well sculpted. He looks a bit like the Sandman in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-man 3 too. Heh.

Look at the texture of the Toybiz Sandman! He really is textured like a rough granite rock or something. This is something that Hasbro does not do (except for the recent 80th Anniversary Captain America that has great sculpted scales). I find his texture lives up to his ‘Sandman’ character name.

Both Sandman are bigger than Spidey, so both of them size up well with Spidey. Spidey is looking nervous there in the picture. Heh.

TL;DR

Toybiz Sandman:

+ A pair of human hands

+ 4 weaponized hands that can be used on both left or right hand

+ Whole figure has a grainy texture

+ Taller than Pizza Spidey (but smaller than Hasbro Sandman)

– No alternate head

Hasbro Sandman:

+ 4 weaponized hands that can be used on both left or right hand

+ Has 2 heads; one human head and one partly-sandy face

+ Big and bulky (bigger than both Pizza Spidey and Toybiz Sandman)

– Does not have human hands

My Verdict

Marvel Legends - Toybiz Sandman (Spider-man Classics Series 12) vs Hasbro Sandman (BAF)

I’m torn between these two. Both of them are really great figures in their own ways. The Toybiz Sandman outlook is menacing with his kinda sand-textured appearance, and the Hasbro Sandman BAF is simply huge and towering over Spidey.

I’m keeping both of mine!
