Here we have Captain America in his iconic costume. There has been many Captain America Marvel Legends, but I chose to compare these three because these three are the official releases with scales on the chest. There is also the Toybiz Series 1 Captain America which also has painted scales on the chest, but I don’t have that figure.

Toybiz Captain America has been the Captain America figure for the longest time. Even though I find the body proportion to be off, it is still a decent figure. At least until the 80th Anniversary Captain America came. But that’s just my opinion though. The Toybiz Captain America comes from a 2-pack with the Red Skull, and has an unmasked variant.

Hasbro Vintage Wave Captain America comes from the new Vintage wave which re-released classic characters. The scales on this Cap are painted, not sculpted like the other two figures above. It is a repaint of the Onslaught BAF Wave Captain America. You can check out the comparison between the two of them (Vintage Wave vs Onslaught BAF Wave) here.

The Marvel 80th Anniversary Captain America is the latest Captain America figure in this costume. The scales on the chest are sculpted.

Toybiz Captain America comes with a shield. Vintage wave Captain America comes with a shield and an alternate hand with throwing effect attached to it. 80th Anniversary Captain America has a shield, the same alternate hand with throwing effect, two heads and two pairs of hands. The more accessories the merrier!

Differences

First off, the height. Face-off Captain America is the shortest. Vintage Wave Captain America and 80th Anni Captain America are about the same height. I like the height of both the Hasbro Captain America.

From the side view you can also see that the Toybiz Captain America’s neck is kinda angle forward and looks like his neck is slouching forward. This is makes his body anatomy look weird and makes his head look small too. He looks like he’s on steroids, pumped specifically into the trapezius.

You can see above how broad his back is. It makes his head look smaller than it already is. Although the head is slightly small, it is a good head sculpt

The belt of the Face-off Captain America has pouches. I’m not so sure when was he drawn with pouches in the comics, but I’d say most artist drew him without pouches.

One winning point for this figure to me is the colour scheme. It has the best shade of blue and red as compared to the other two figures. There’s also black wash throughout the blue parts of the figure.

The hole at the back is for the figure stand that comes with the figure. It also works with stands that come from other single carded Toybiz figures.

As mentioned earlier, this Vintage wave Captain America is a repaint of the Onslaught BAF Wave Captain America. The scales are painted. The blue is also a shade lighter than Face-off Cap and the Onslaught BAF Wave Cap.

I like the bulkiness of this figure. He is supposed to be tall and built, so this body mold fits the bill.

Look at the wedgie of the American ass. Lol.

The hole at the back is to attach the shield to his back. Most Hasbro Captain America figures have that.

Aaaaand here we are. The Marvel 80th Anniversary Captain America. The sculpt of the scales are even more scaly than the Face-off Cap.

His body proportion is similar to the Vintage Wave Captain America. He has the same hole at the back to attach the shield. At least he doesn’t have a wedgie this time round.

The two heads are very similar. I wish they are of a different expression. The main difference is that the gap between the mouth and the chin is wider on one of them.

The shade of blue is also darker than the other two Captain America figures. It’s not that bad, but I wish he came with the blue like the Face-off Cap.

Shields up! Face-off Captain America has the standard string that is used to attach the shield to the figure like wearing a backpack, and Hasbro has the standard peg hole to insert the peg on the shield to attach it to the back. Its easier the Hasbro way. Heh.

I find the Face-off Cap shield has the best design among the three. The star is big, colours vibrant and the red and white parts of the circle is proportionate. The 80th Anniversary Cap has the worst shield design in my opinion. Its dark and the red parts are narrow and white part is wider.

TL;DR

Toybiz Captain America (Face-off 2-pack):

+ Best shade of blue and red

+ Sculpted scales on chest

+ Best (and biggest) shield design

+ Good articulation

+ Good head sculpt

– Shorter than Hasbro Captain America

– Shield is attached to back by using strings (which can expand and become loose over time)

– Oversized upper back, at the trapezius to be exact

Hasbro Captain America (Vintage Wave 1):

+ Tall and stocky body mold

+ Shield design is decent

+ Shade of blue is lighter than Face-off Cap

– Scales are painted, not sculpted

Hasbro Captain America (Marvel 80th Anniversary):

+ Detailed sculpted scales on chest

+ Tall and stocky body mold

+ Darker shade of blue than Face-off Cap

+ Two heads, two pairs of hands and a shield throw effect

– Shield design least appealing between the three figures

My Verdict

Marvel Legends - Toybiz Captain America (Face-off 2-pack) vs Hasbro Captain America (Vintage Wave 1) vs Hasbro Captain America (80th Anniversary)

To me, between the three of them, 80th Anniversary Captain America wins it. But then again, all three figures have their good points, and there’ll always be the older (and also newer) collectors who would prefer Face-off Cap over the 80th Anniversary Cap.

Even though 80th Anniversary Captain America wins it for me, I wish it came with a different expression for the alternate head, and that it has the colour scheme of the Face-off Cap. I still prefer Face-off Cap’s shield too.
