The Figures

Here we have the Scarlet Spider from SP//DR BAF Wave (2018) and Rocket Raccoon BAF Wave (2013). The RR Scarlet Spider uses the body mold that is commonly used during those few years. The first Big Time Spider-man and Future Foundation Spider-man uses that same body mold.

SP//DR Scarlet Spider uses the new Bullseye body mold. It’s slightly more buffed and has an updated butterfly shoulder joints.

The SP//DR Scarlet Spider had 2 pairs of hands and an unmasked head while the RR Scarlet Spider comes with no other accessories, not even a BAF part of the Rocket Raccoon.

You can see from the above front and back pictures of the two figures at the spider logo on the front and back is different from each other.

Differences

The eyes on the two Scarlet Spiders are different. I prefer the RR Scarlet Spider’s eyes.

The main problem with the RR Scarlet Spider body mold (problem that the Big Time Spidey and Future Foundation Spidey have also as they share the same body mold) is the elongated fist and web-shooting hands. You can see above that the RR Scarlet Spider’s fist is elongated from the wrist side as compared to the SP//DR Scarlet Spider.

From the picture above, you can see the elongated palm of the web-shooting hand. It’s quite unsightly to me.

Points of articulation are almost the same except the ball joint of the RR Scarlet Spider. That ball-like joint that connects the legs to the hips allows RR Scarlet Spider to do an almost perfect split. However I feel that the newer SP//DR Scarlet Spider is easier to pose. Hasbro has moved on from those ball-like leg-to-hip joint.

Above is the SP//DR Scarlet Spider with the unmasked head. In the comics, the true identity of this Scarlet Spider is Kaine, who is an imperfect clone of Peter Parker, the original Spider-man. He was revealed to have merged with a mystical entity ‘The Other’ during the ‘Spider-Island’ story line, thus have those stingers on his alternate hands for this figure (although in the stingers they were longer).

TL;DR

Scarlet Spider (SP//DR BAF Wave):

+ Updated body mold

+ Smaller eyes

+ Unmasked head

+ 2 pairs of hands

+ Different spider logo

Scarlet Spider (Rocket Raccoon BAF Wave):

+ Bigger eyes

+ Different spider logo

– Only one pair of hands

– No alternate head

– Elongated fist and web-shooting hands

My Verdict

The newer Scarlet Spider is definitely a win for me. Extra pair of hands, unmasked head and an updated body mold is what this character needed. However, I still prefer the RR Scarlet Spider’s head. I like the classic big eyes.

The SP//DR Scarlet Spider still can be found in stores or online, and both can be found in secondary market. If you are planning to get one, SP//DR Scarlet Spider is the figure to go in my opinion.

You can get SP//DR Scarlet Spider here or here.

I’m keeping both of course. Just because it’s Spider-man related. Heh.
