Marvel Legends – Quicksilver (Family Matters Boxset) vs Quicksilver (Blob BAF Wave)

The Figures

Here we have Hasbro Quicksilver from ‘Family Matters’ 3-pack boxset (that came with Magneto and Scarlet Witch) and the early Hasbro Quicksilver from Blob BAF Wave.

3-pack Quicksilver comes with 2 pairs of hands while Blob wave Quicksilver does not come with any accessories.

As you can see, the Blob wave Quicksilver that I got had a discoloured torso. It used to be blue like the rest of the figure, but became kinda dark green over time. I’m not sure if it’s a common problem, but I have seen another of the same figure having the same discolouration, although not as bad as mine.

The costume design of the figure is the same; white gloves and boots, white zigzag lines and blue for the rest of the costume.

Differences

The new 3-pack Quicksilver is taller than the Blob wave Quicksilver. With the new body mold that Hasbro is releasing, I’m really starting to dislike the Blob wave Quicksilver’s body mold.

Quite a number of early Hasbro (2008-2009) and Hasbro ‘Return of Marvel Legends) series figures uses this body mold. I hate that it makes the figure’s neck look extended forward, and if I were to pull the ab crunch one click back, its back will be very arched.

The new Quicksilver body mold looks better.

3-pack Quicksilver’s straight-fingered hands works better than the useless finger hinge joint that early Hasbro and Toybiz always use. What’s the points of having 4 fingers kept straight and bent inwards 90 degrees?

The straight-fingered hands are meant for his running poses. The alternate pair of fists are also useful for other poses. Alternate hands are better than finger articulation. I’m glad Hasbro stopped those finger hinge joints since Return of Marvel Legends.

Damn Blob wave Quicksilver has never seen the sun. He is so pale he’s almost as white as his hair. Hasbro definitely did it better with the 3-pack Quicksilver. There is even a very slight smirk in his face.

I feel that Hasbro did the hair better with the 3-pack Quicksilver. It has decent sculpting, with the hair pulled backwards because he’s running.

The Blob wave Quicksilver has those 2 end jutting out like antennas. I think it’s supposed to be because he is running, but its so blunt it looks awful to me.

Both figures are able to pull off a running pose, but I feel its easier to do it with the 3-pack Quicksilver, who has ankle rocker joint and tight joints, and also the figure just simply looks better to me in the running position as compared with Blob wave Quicksilver.

Look who fell while I was taking a pic. Heh.

TL;DR

Hasbro Quicksilver (‘Family Matters’ 3-pack Boxset):

+ 2 pairs of hands; straight fingers and fists

+ Better head and hair sculpts

+ Better body mold

+ Taller

+ Easier to do the running pose, and looks better too

Hasbro Quicksilver (Blob BAF Wave):

– Used old body mold that makes his neck look extended forward, or back arched too much

– Useless finger hinge joints (can’t make a fist out of the joint)

– Might have discolouration over the years

My Verdict

Marvel Legends - Quicksilver (Family Matters Boxset) vs Quicksilver (Blob BAF Wave)

The newer Hasbro Quicksilver from the 3-pack boxset is a hand down win to me. I guess the only thing is that it comes in a 3-pack, so if you’re buying off retail or online brand new in box, you gotta get all three figures.

Those straight-fingered hands are fun to pose!
