Here are the two Jim Lee Jean Grey by Hasbro. The first one came out in the Rocket Raccoon BAF Wave back in 2013, and the newer Jean Grey is from the 2019 Love Triangle 3-pack box set with Cyclops and Wolverine.
Rocket Jean Grey does not come with any accessories, while 3-pack Jean Grey comes with and alternate ponytail head (that head stand is not included lol, that’s my own stand).
You can see that although both figures are based off the Jim Lee Jean Grey appearance, they have a completely different body mold.
Here is a back view of the figures and the alternate head. I think the hair of the Rocket Jean Grey is over-sculpted, if there is even such a thing lol.
It looks as though they are the same height, but the 3-pack Jean Grey is actually taller. However, the Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey has thicker hair sculpt which makes her about the same height as the 3-pack Jean.
You can also see how the hair flows down better on the 3-pack Jean Grey than the Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey. Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey’s hair kinda flows to the back instead of downwards, and it doesn’t look natural.
I actually prefer the face sculpt of the Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey, but the paintwork on it could have been better. I’m not into the 3-pack Jean’s pouty lips, lol. The eyes are definitely painted better on her though.
Their paintwork is also obviously different. Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey has a lighter yellow with ‘chrome’ blue, while 3-pack Jean Grey has a darker shade of yellow with darker blue. I actually prefer the paint work of the Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey over the 3-pack Jean Grey.
They have the same belt, with the colours on the belt matching each of their attire respectively.
The shoulder pad extends outwards more on the Rocket Raccoon Jean Grey. I feel that’s’s more accurate to the comics.
The 3-pack has that blue strip on the bicep/tricep area, which is comic accurate and missing on the Rocket Raccoon wave.
They have the same gauntlet armour at the forearm, with colours matching each costume respectively.
The pads on the thigh are of different sizes between each figure. She’s been drawn in the comic sometimes with big, and sometimes with smaller thigh pads, so I feel the size of this doesn’t really matter. The gold stands out better on the 3-pack though.
Here is the alternate ponytail head. The 90s X-men Animated Series Jean Grey has this appearance. I prefer the lips on the ponytail head over the other one, and the face looks better overall too.
Jean Grey (Rocket Raccoon BAF Wave):
+ Good face sculpt (though paintwork on eyes could be better)
+ Chrome blue with brighter yellow paintwork
+ Slightly shorter than 3-pack, but looks like the same height as the hair sculpt is thick
+ Shoulder pads extend further out
+ Bigger pad at side of thighs
+ Same belt as 3-pack Jean
– Hair flows towards the back instead of downwards, look unnatural
– No accessories
– The open palm hands looks very flat
Jean Grey (Love Triangle 3-pack):
+ Good face sculpt on the ponytail head
+ Comes with alternate head
+ Dark blue with darker yellow paintwork
+ Slightly taller than 3-pack, but looks like the same height as the hair sculpt of the Rocket Raccoon Jean is thick
+ Shoulder pads does not extend as far out as the Rocket Raccoon Jean
+ Smaller pad at side of thighs
+ Same belt as Rocket Raccoon Jean
+ Better hair sculpt for both heads
+ Better body mold
I prefer the face of Rocket Jean Grey.
I prefer the hair sculpt of the 3-pack Jean Grey.
I prefer the shoulder pads on Rocket Jean Grey.
I prefer the body mold of the 3-pack Jean Grey.
And the mixed preferences goes on lol. But overall, the 3-pack Jean Grey wins it for me with the 2 different heads and better body mold.
Here’s a head swap. The 3-pack Jean head looks a tad too big for the Rocket Jean Grey body.
The Rocket Jean Grey head is proportionate to the 3-pack body, but of course the blue is a mismatch.
