Marvel Legends – Iron Spider Variants (Metallic, Normal, Translucent)

The Figures

Here we have the three Iron Spider-mans released many years back. I’m sure Hasbro will release an updated version of the Iron Spider soon, but for now, this figures will be the placeholders in my collection.

The metallic Iron Spider from Spider-man Origins series back in 2006 is the first to be released, followed by the other two, which were released at the same time as variants in 2008.

The three figures have the same exact body mold. It’s definitely not the best body mold, with no waist swivel, no forearm swivel and still holding on to Toybiz’s trend of fingers with unsightly articulation.

It’s also kinda skinny. The spider legs are also flimsy ans short.

The sculpting for the spider logo across the chest is good though.

Differences

The metallic red Iron Spider comes with a very yellow paintwork. The yellow on the spider legs and the spidey logo is the same shade. I feel if they made it shiny gold it would have looked better.

This Iron Spider came 2 years after the metallic version, in a different Spider-man series. I actually prefer this paintwork. The red and gold could have been more glossy. Again, the gold colour on the spider legs and the spider logo is the same.

I don’t know why there was a translucent variant. It’s not like the suit had phasing powers or anything in the comics. I was lucky to get both variants in a good deal.

TL;DR

Same body mold for all three figures.

+ Same height as the new Hasbro Pizza Spidey, so it doesn’t look out of scale.

+ Sculpted logo across the chest.

– It’s a bit skinny though.

– Lack waist swivel and forearm swivel which makes posing this figure difficult.

– Unsightly finger articulation (luckily now Hasbro give alternate hands instead of articulated finger)

– Short and flimsy spider legs

My Verdict

If you display them in vanilla pose (just standing upright), they actually look quite nice, to me at least. If I had only one choice, I’d pick the normal variant. I like that paint work the most, and its also not translucent.

However, I’m definitely still keeping all three.

Looking forward to a new version of this character! Come one Hasbro!
