The Figures

Above is the one and only Pizza Spider-man, which is the only release of Spider-man in his classic costume since ‘Return of Marvel Legends’ in 2012. It was packed 2 pieces per case of 8, but still became hard to find, which results in the figure being quite pricey now. It came with a pizza, thereby being dubbed the ‘Pizza Spidey’.
This Spider-man figure was released in the Hobgoblin BAF wave, whereby Phil Urich was the Hobgoblin. Therefore, the Hobgoblin has a different costume from the classic Roderick Kingsley Hobgoblin. But anyways, lets focus on the Spidey figure.

One or two years after it was released in 2015, the KO (Knock-off, fake, non-authentic) Pizza Spider-man surfaced. It came with added accessories; a blue bag pack and a Captain America Shield (due to Spider-man catching Cap’s shield in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ MCU movie).

As you can see, at a glance, they look the same. When you are getting a loose set of Pizza Spider-man, or back in box, do look out for the following differences so that you know what you are getting and not get cheated.

Differences

First off, the pegs of the alternate hands of the KO Spidey are pale red, whereas for authentic, the red colour of the peg is consistent with hands.

As you can see, the KO head has a flattened part which can only be seen from a frontal angle. The Authentic head has a curved head as per normal. This is important as heads can easily be swapped. That flat head defect is consistent throughout the KOs I’ve had (yes I got a few KOs for some customs, heh).

The KO weblines on the mask does not meet at the nose bridge, unlike the authentic head.

The ball peg of the head joint is pale red for the KO. The authentic ball peg’s red is consistent with the red paintwork on the figure. This is one of the obvious sign of the figure being an authentic or KO figure.

The pegs of the elbow joints are pale red for the KO, same pale red as the pegs on the extra hands and head joint.

The weblines on the body at that particular row that I pointed with the arrow is narrower on the KO body, As compared to the authentic one. This is a small difference and difficult to look out for at a glance. Identifying the head ball joint is easier to identify a KO body.

Now this is a surprise. The KO legs is able to do a wider split than the authentic. How can spidey not be able to do a full split?

My Verdict

Marvel Legends - Hobgoblin BAF Wave Pizza Spider-man (Authentic vs KO)Left: KO Pizza Spider-man Right: Authentic Hobgoblin BAF Wave Pizza Spider-man

The KO Pizza Spidey is actually quite a decent figure. I’ve seen many use it for custom. I myself have used it to create a 6-armed Spidey, as the KO Spidey is cheaper to get. It’s also a decent stand in for the classic costume Spider-man if you can’t find the authentic one yet.

What’s more important is don’t be duped into paying a high price for it by a seller who claims to be selling an authentic one. Do look out for the notable differences mentioned above.
