Marvel Legends – Hasbro Juggernaut BAF Wave Wolverine vs Toybiz Series IV Wolverine

The Figures

Here we have two brown suit Wolverines, one from Hasbro and the older one from Toybiz. Toybiz brown suit Wolverine comes with a diorama of a samurai master at the entrance of a small hut. I don’t have, but the dio is kinda useless and unproportionate in size to me.

Hasbro brown suit Wolverine comes with BAF Juggernaut’s head and two alternate clawless fists. As per all the previous Hasbro Wolverines, the claws are removable. Toybiz Wolverine has awkwardly-positioned finger-articulated hands. When I say finger articulation, it isn’t individual finger articulation but all 4 fingers stuck together. You can see it’s not really aesthetically pleasing, heh. Having alternate clawless fists are so much better.

Back view of the figures. As you can see, they are two completely different body mold. Hasbro has a more balanced torso to legs proportion. Toybiz has a shorter torso and longer legs.

Differences

The height is about the same, but as mention above, the torso to leg proportion is different. Another main and obvious difference are the shades of the colour; same colour scheme of yellow and brown, but different in shades.

Their belts are different, with the Toybiz Wolverine sporting the ‘X’ logo but the Hasbro Wolverine has a normal belt buckle. Hasbro Wolverine’s belt is a separate piece. Toybiz Wolverine’s belt is sculpted onto the waist.

Both their claws are sucky, but Hasbro has the better of the claws. Hasbro Wolverine’s claws are straight, but very whitish and plasticky. Toybiz Wolverine’s claws and longer and has better silver paintwork, but very flimsy and difficult to make it straight, as seen in the above picture.

I’ve seen plenty of mods for the Hasbro Wolverine claws, where customizer replaced them with more metallic alternatives (and sharper too!).

Up close, Hasbro Wolverine seems to have done some waxing; there isn’t any hair on his arms. Wolverine has always been pictured as quite ‘hairy’, so I feel Toybiz got this one right with the hair paintwork on his arms.

I like both face sculpts. I wish Hasbro Wolverine comes with an alternate snarling head like the Toybiz’s head. Hasbro’s Wolverine face is not ideal for attacking poses. He looks so calm!

TL;DR

Hasbro Wolverine:

– Alternate clawless fists

– Straighter claws, and also removable for easier custom swap with metallic claws

– Better body mold; more proportionate for a short stocky character

Toybiz Wolverine:

– Hair paintwork on the arms

– Snarling face expression

My Verdict

The only win for me for the Toybiz Brown Suit Wolverine is the snarling face. Other than that, Hasbro wins, in terms of articulation, alternate hands, claws that are at least not flimsy and a more accurate body mold for a short stocky guy. Hasbro for the win!
